Heart Disease in the context of Bangladesh

Cardiovascular disease or CVD is the one of the most common diseases in Bangladesh. According to a latest WHO data published in 2020, Coronary Heart Disease (also known as clogged arteries disease) which causes heart attacks and strokes in Bangladesh, reached 108,528 or 15.16% of total deaths. The death rate is 94.27 per 1,00,000 of population which ranks Bangladesh 118th in the world. Heart disease in the ratio of men to women in Bangladesh – Men are twice as likely to have heart diseases than women.

What are the strategies to prevent heart disease?

Lifestyle choices play a vital role in heart diseases. In fact, in some cases it is the only factor that put adversities in the condition of cardiac diseases. Heart disease are hereditary in some cases. Coronary artery disease leading to heart attack, stroke, and heart failure can also be passed down in families, indicating inherited genetic risk factors.

Manage stress – stressing over things which can easily be controlled is one of the vital reasons for any heart disease. Sleeping for 7-8 hours is mandatory to avoid heart related issues and stress.

No smoking – smoking is strictly prohibited in order to avoid the risk of heart complicacies. Each time you smoke, it puts tremendous pressure on the heart and lungs to pump blood leading to clogged arteries in the heart. Zero smoking habits therefore keeps the heart healthy and away from any such difficulties.

No alcohol – high level of alcohol intake can cause high blood pressure, heart failure or even stroke. Heavy consumption of alcohol weakens the heart muscles and hinders the blood circulation in the body.

 A balanced diet – a proper nutrition plan is one of the strongest means to fight against heart diseases. More greens, less oils and less carbohydrates, more water helps us to keep our BMI balanced. A perfect and balanced weight helps us to carry our day to day activities freely and with less level of exhaustion. A proper diet plan helps us to keep the body weight in control and hence the lean weight reduces the tardiness and fatigue, leading to a healthy heart. 

Physical exercise – in order to avoid all sorts of bodily diseases, one should regularly do physical activities. Daily physical activities for 20 – 30 minutes, helps to keep a stable blood circulation level and reduces the risk of heart disease. Counting steps on a daily basis gives us a reality check regularly on how much calories we are burning.
